How it all Started…
Viktor F. Faessler – businessman from Zurich, Switzerland – had a heart attack.
After being discharged from hospital, he decided to carry out the prescribed ambulatory cardiac rehabilitation in the high altitude region of St. Moritz, Engadine.
He discovered that there was no official cardiac rehab programme in the Engadine, despite the fact that all the resources are already in place. He proceeded to create his own rehabilitation programme, with great success. Based on this personal experience and his expertise in hospital administration, he decided to create an official project for ambulatory cardiac rehab in the Engadine.
The concept of Santasana, St. Moritz was born.
Activities carried out at a higher altitude like St. Moritz (1’856 m or 6’089 ft) increase cardiac performance, thereby accelerating full recovery.
This has been scientifically proven and demonstrated by top athletes, who often train at such altitudes.
Distance from Everyday Life is necessary factor for convalescence.
Alternative Accommodation: Cardiovascular patients undergoing an ambulatory cure often prefer to stay in a hotel or holiday apartment, rather than a clinic.
Emergency: All possible scenarios are covered by our emergency programme in collaboration with regional hospitals.
The local Engadine airport, St. Moritz offers plane connections to the international airports of Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Milan and Munich. There are also air taxi connections available to and from many other national and international destinations.
